CREATE A TIMELINE
PLAN YOUR TIMELINE for interview, project completion and wrapping up your project by looking at the Dates to Remember document on this page. Plan ahead & give yourself plenty of extra time just in case.
|
There are about 8 specific dates for Gold Award approval interviews each year. Interviews are scheduled between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at GSOC when they are done in person or within the week of the published date on Zoom if arranged by the Girl Scout & her interviewer.
No registration or RSVP is required; girls are assigned an appointment time on receipt of their Project Proposal through Gogold. Notification of appointment times are sent to girls after their Project Proposal is received by the application deadline. |
FILLING OUT YOUR PROPOSAL
GET FEEDBACK AND MAKE REVISIONS
Attend a GSOC Gold Award Project Proposal Meetings (Informal) with GSOC interviewers. Make revisions based on their feedback, if necessary. It is not required, but I highly recommend that you attend one of these meetings. It can be a key to getting your project approved sooner!! It is an opportunity to present your plan to members of the Girl Scout Gold Award Support Team (the people who do the Gold approval interviews) in an informal setting. The meetings are designed for girls who have an idea of what they would like to do for their Gold. You don't have a plan before attending, but it helps. The team will help you to evaluate your project to see whether you are ready for your interview, whether your plan is Gold Award caliber and if it’s not quite there yet, to give feedback to help you figure out how to get it there. You can attend more than once if you learn that your idea isn't on the right track.
PREPARE
Prepare for the interview - I bet that your secret wish is to be able to text your interview. Sorry!! You have to talk to real people - face to face or on Zoom. Practice telling people about your plan. Don't be shy - tell everyone you know. Have your Group/troop advisor ask you questions as if they were doing the interview.PRACTICE interviewing skills with adults.
The Interview - What to expect
On the interview date, arrive prepared to "pitch" your project to a member of the committee. They will be interested in knowing how you chose the project, why it is important, how you will make a sustainable difference. They will be looking for passion and enthusiasm for your project. They don't have a set list of questions, it will depend upon who is doing your interview, but here are a few they might ask:

What did you do for your Silver?
What was the best part of the Journey you took? What was your Take Action Project? Why does this issue interest you? How will your work affect the community you are serving? |
Who/what agency has promised to take this on and sustain it after you are done?
Who is your team? How will you lead them? How much is it going to cost? How will you earn the money needed? How are you going to measure your success? |
INTERVIEW
Interview Outcomes
HOW will I know if my project is approved?
At your interview, your interviewer will give you one of three designations Approved - (Green light) - Have fun & get started. Pending - (Yellow light) - Almost, but not quite, need more info, usually done by email and adding any additions back into your original application, second interview not required. Listen to their suggestions & communicate with interviewer by email to get final approval. They want you to be green. Returned for further Development - (Red Light) - The Project Proposal doesn't meet National Guidelines. |
