Mission Sisterhood for Seniors Grades 9-10

Picture
Senior Girl Scouts on the Mission Sisterhood Journey will examine what sisterhood means to them. The Journey begins with self reflection and moves outward to examining their own relationships. They learn how women supporting each other fosters healthy relationships which can grow to making changes within their community.

By the end of our Mission Sisterhood series, each Senior will have a well-developed plan for her solo or group Take Action Project (to be carried out after the series ends). Your Seniors will also leave equipped with knowledge and skills that will prepare them to create strong Gold Awards.

Completing a Senior (9th-10th grade) or Ambassador (11th-12th grade) Journey is a prerequisite for the Gold  Award because they create a project following the same steps, but on a smaller scale.
All Workshops4girls Journeys are lead by experienced Girl Scout Highest Award experts (Bronze, Silver & Gold). We emphasize building the skills that lead directly to successful and impactful Gold Awards.

What do Seniors who completed a Virtual Workshops4girls Mission Sisterhood Journey have to say about the experience?

My favorite part was listening to the guest speakers because they were absolutely amazing, and I also just enjoyed meeting all the other people and scouts.
I would say that it is definitely an experience that is helpful and insightful to work your way up to planning a Gold project.
The experience helped me become more aware of topics of my interest and included a step-by-step layout to aid me in successfully completing my journey as well as my Gold Award.
My favorite part was working together with others who are concerned about the same issues.
I learned how to properly plan a project and I realized that I am truly capable to do all the things I set out to do.
I would recommend that my friends take these sessions since this journey is about sisterhood and my friends can get support if they need it. I also think it was a really fun way to learn more about independence and planning.

MISSION SISTERHOOD TAKE ACTION PROJECT

Taking Action with a purpose and a strong vision

from elevator speech to finished Journey Take Action Project.

Hello, my name is Thy

My project will address the lack of awareness of eating disorders amongst teens. Eating disorders are becoming increasingly common in teenagers; therefore, it has become more necessary to raise awareness and educate about what eating disorders look like and how to prevent them. Through educational workshops and the opportunity to learn about eating disorders from the perspective of an eating disorder survivor guest speaker, teens will learn how to identify eating disorders, gain the resources to seek help with eating disorders, and learn how they can support friends/family struggling with eating disorders.

A Girl's Guide To Media - Insignificant Papers

For my Mission Take Action project,   I highlighted the negative effect that the media can have on self esteem.  I created a presentation for a womens's group. To convey my message I made a video and website. The video illustrates the negative effects of media on a girl's everyday lifestyle. It portrays how even the simplest images and pages in a magazine can intensely impact the decisions a girl makes throughout her lifestyle. It demonstrates how the most insignificant papers can devastate a girl's self esteem and make her look down at herself and her physical appearance.
The website I made has videos and photos that inspired me to make a video of my own.

Healthy Self Talk

You Are Be-You-tiful!"

In this video, you will learn that you are beautiful no matter what anyone may say. Words can't bring you down, you are be-you-tiful! The importance children place on self-confidence is slowly dwindling in today's society. Our video will help young girls see their worth and regain their self confidence.

Why I chose this issue
Going into a new school can be scary especially if you are going into high school with students who are almost adults. When I was going into my freshman year of high school at a new school, I felt insecure and vulnerable having to share a campus with kids old enough to drive! I created my Take Action Project to ease the nerves of students who may experience social anxiety starting at a new school. Some people even get social anxiety just from starting school, not even at a new school. On this website, you will find inspiring Instagram accounts to follow, easy exercises to raise confidence, and uplifting quotes that will combat social anxiety!

Issue: Test Anxiety

What does the word beautiful mean to you ?

In this video, we wanted to study how people view themselves versus others. We wanted to make light of the fact that people tend to judge themselves much harsher than they judge others. With this video we hope to spread the idea that you shouldn't judge yourself harder that your judge others.
