Justice! Workshop Series for Ambassadors
Take action to save the environment

In this 4-day virtual Justice Journey workshop series, Girl Scout Ambassadors will  explore issues surrounding the health of the planet.  They will be inspired to take action by following in the footsteps of ordinary citizens who became extraordinary  advocates by standing up against toxic dumping, fighting for the legislation and changing public policy. 

By the end of our Justice series, each Ambassador will have a well-developed plan for her Take Action Project (to be carried out after the series ends). Your Ambassador will also leave equipped with knowledge and skills that will prepare her to create a  strong Gold Award. 

Completing a Senior (9th-10th grade) or Ambassador (11th-12th grade) Journey is a prerequisite  for the Gold  Award because they create a project following
​ the same steps, but on a smaller scale.  
All Workshops4girls Journeys are lead by experienced Girl Scout Highest Award experts (Bronze, Silver & Gold) . We emphasize building the skills that lead directly to successful and impactful Gold Awards.

I gained new insight on how to be more proactive in the community realistically.

I enjoyed hearing from the guest speakers about their experiences and advice of what they have for a successful project.

My favorite part of the journey was planning out new projects, as it helped me explore and learn about the diversity of Take Action Projects we can make to help our communities.

It was a great experience and offers lot of resources you would not have if you completed the journey on your own.

Hello, my name is Mahita
The issue I’ve chosen for my Journey Take Action Project is: Healthy Diet Culture in Adolescents
The reason this issue is important to me is: As adolescents become more independent in their food choices, they may get bad influences from media, potentially harming their health and leading them to make bad choices towards their diets.
The target audience I will reach out to is: adolescents, pre-teens
The steps I will take to complete my project are: 
Research various diets and how they are harmful (missing nutrients)
Find a diverse range of food that could replenish those missing nutrients
Create a presentation
Contact those who may be interested
Publicize on social media
Give presentation to group over zoom
The result I hope to have is:
I hope to inspire to be more confident and assured in their food choices. And when they do reach a level of confidence in their diet, they know how to get all of the nutrients/vitamins possible.

Hello, my name is Elisha
  The issue I’ve chosen for my Journey Take Action Project is: the overuse of single use plastic
The reason this issue is important to me is: because plastic creates a lot of waste. It takes 450 years for a single piece of plastic to decompose. If we stopped using plastic, then we would eliminate a lot of waste in the landfills.
The target audience I will reach out to is: Girl Scouts troops, such as Daisies and Brownies. I will also be contacting Service Units to show them my petition.
The steps I will take to complete my project are: 
I will be creating a workshop about plastic for Girl Scout troops where they discuss the different types of plastic they use and suggest potential alternatives. I also will be creating a petition to Girl Scouts CCC asking them to remove the plastic that they use in wrapping their patches. In just 1 startup vest, Girl Scouts uses 7 of these pieces of plastic. Now imagine that times the number of girls in Girl Scouts. That’s a large amount of plastic.
The result I hope to have is: for the girls to understand more about how their use of plastic affects the environment and how they can use less. I also want parents to become aware of how much plastic comes with the patches on their daughter’s vest. ​

Did you know that plastic waste is increasing due to covid?

On a Justice Journey you will learn many ways that everyday actions effect the environment.  Here are a few tips you can start with right now.  
1. Use reusable masks. (Yes, we know they aren't plastic, but they are littering our beaches!
2. Bag your own groceries.
3. Learn what’s recyclable in your area.
4. Say no to single-use plastic at restaurants.
5. Use something other than balloons for cheerful displays.
6. Utilize your science skills to conduct an audit of your trash
