aMAZE series for Cadettes grades 6-8

What is a real friend? What is peer pressure?
How can I stand up for myself and others?

Picture
Conflict abounds in world at large, but what is the world to Cadette Girl Scouts? For most, it is their school, their friends, and increasingly social media.  Relationships can be difficult to navigate for adults, but for girls of middle school age it can be especially overwhelming. They are going through profound physical and emotional changes right as they leave behind familiar schools and friend groups.
During the AMAZE journey, the girls learn to recognize healthy relationships. They gain communication skills and tools to use to stand up for themselves and others and to resolve conflicts. They leave empowered with a plan to Take Action to use the knowledge they gained to make the world a better place for their peers.
By the end of our aMAZE series, each Cadette will have a well-developed plan for a Take Action Project (to be carried out after the series ends). Your Cadettes will also leave equipped with knowledge and skills that will prepare them to create strong Silver Awards

Completing a Cadette Journey is a prerequisite  for the Silver  Award because they create a Take Action project following
the same steps, but on a smaller scale.
All Workshops4girls Journeys are lead by experienced Girl Scout Highest Award experts (Bronze, Silver & Gold) . We emphasize building the skills that lead directly to successful and impactful Silver Awards.

What do Cadettes who completed a Virtual Workshops4girls aMaze Journey have to say about the experience?

I think that the overall journey was wonderful and I am very happy with everything I learned.
I learned how to stand up for yourself, be honest, and accept each other for who they are.
My favorite part of this journey was working with the two other girls in my troop with the Take Action project. I also liked meeting new girls from different troops.
I learned leadership skills, as well as things like elevator speeches.
My favorite parts of the journey were meeting other people and planning our project.
I had a great time, and got useful feedback!

aMAZE Diplomat Award Take Action Project

Taking Action with a purpose and a strong vision the elevator speech!

Hello my name is Bella.
The issue I’ve chosen for my Journey Take Action Project is: unhealthy friendships.
The reason this issue is important to me is: because a girl might be getting teased by a “friend”, and that “friend” can then say “just joking” or “just kidding” to cover up for them actually being mean. I hope to teach girls to identify these character traits, if you are a victim and how to change that.
The steps I will take to complete my project are:
I will meet up with up with my Girl Scout troop, discuss this problem, and do research on how unhealthy friendship affects 4-5th grade girls. We will plan an online event to help girls identify these types of friendships by having skits, videos and playing games.
The target audience I will reach out to is:
(be specific) Two Junior Troops.
The result I want to have is: to help girls stand up to those friends when they know they are not “just kidding”.

Hi! My name is Suzy and this is my Elevator Speech for my Amaze Journey Take Action project!
This Journey is about good relationships and one relationship that you’ve had your whole life is the one between you and your parents! Sometimes that bond can break, even when you don’t want it to.
So the main issue the project is focusing around is Healthy Relationships Between Parents and Kids. This project is important to me because I’ve had some ups and downs with my parents myself. This project can help others (as well as myself) learn how we can have an understanding relationship and how to be better because of it!
We’re planning to execute this project in the form of workshops! 2 classes, one for juniors and one for Cadettes, teaching about how they can have better relationships with their parents, and how the parents of these girls can understand and have better bonds with their children. There are going to be multiple steps to take to reach this goal, first we will need to research what makes a good familial relationship, then we’ll figure out how to give that information to others, maybe in the form of a slideshow or video. Then we have to get in touch with a junior troop and a cadette troop to give the classes too, and we have to get in touch with the girl scout house (because they are one of the locations we are thinking of hosting the classes at), if not then we could do it at someone’s house.
The result we are hoping for is a mutual understanding and better bond between the parents and girls.
Thanks for listening to my Elevator Pitch!

We created this game as our Amaze Journey Take Action Project. This game is important to us because it teaches young girls about how to deal with peer pressure. Our hope is that girls understand the difference between good and bad peer pressure, and they develop the confidence to make the right decision.

A witness to bullying can be part of the problem or part of the solution!  Which will you choose?  How can you do it? For our Take Action Project we made a video illustrating the right way to be a supportive friend!
A video or website alone isn't a Take Action Project. It is a tool to spread your message.  Taking Action is what you do with the video.

For my Amaze Take Action plan I created these  book marks and distributed to all the students at my school during red ribbon week (the theme for the week was YOLO) . I partnered with the coordinators of the event to lead  lunch time activities revolving around standing up for your friends.
