In expanding on her experience, Natalie decided to earn her Girl Scouts Silver Award by basing her project around religious tolerance.
At Temple Beth Sholom, nearly 100 middle school students rotated through seven different stations and were taught the history, beliefs and practices of different religions while also participating in demonstrations, such as yoga and trying on hijabs, and sampled food, Sunday, Nov. 12

​Cadette Girl Scouts decided to take action to help end hunger and to educate children about making healthy eating choices. Their decision ultimately lead to them creating a sustainable garden for the Valley Road Elementary School.

Animal shelter volunteer education program
After volunteering for a while, the girls used their own experiences to help create a video full of detailed information about what volunteers need to know and what to expect.

Reduce feral cat populations through trap and release education.

​Cat Overpopulation has a detrimental effect on outdoor cats, songbirds, and people living in cities overpopulated by cats. The most effective and humane way to address this issue is TNR (Trap Neuter Return). Participating in TNR is easier than one would think, and has a great effect on communities. Watch this video to learn the issues cat overpopulation causes, and how to help by participating in TNR.

The Food Pantry Garden 
Girl Scout Leanna took action to help end hunger. For her project, she partnered with The Holy Innocents Church Food Pantry that serves over 65 families every week, and over 100 families during the winter holidays. Her contribution? A sustainable food garden! Now, youth groups, local students and community members can manage and harvest the crops from Leanna’s garden to help those in need throughout the year.

     Katie Casey-Anderson has been involved with Girl Scouts for 18 years serving as a troop leader for troops from Brownies to Ambassadors. In 2010, she founded  Workshops4girls, a company that offers girl scout Journey programs for Juniors, Cadettes & Seniors and Ambassadors. To date, Workshops4girls has run over 100 journeys for thousands of girls.  Katie is a active volunteer for Girl Scout Council of Orange County California as an adult trainer and a member of the Older Girl Committee which oversees the Gold Award. If you are a Girl Scout from GSOC and go for Gold, She might be the one who interviews you !
