Workshops4girls Journey participant
Take Action Project plan example

The final product of a Workshops4girls Journey (for Cadettes and up) is an "approved" Take Action Project plan.  What does that look like?
The following is an example of a Journey Take Action Project project at the Senior level (grades 9-10). Below it is their project plan.

From plan to finished project  Girl Scouts in Action!
To see how the Girl Scouts got to this point, see their plan below.

Destigmatizing Homelessness

The Girltopia Journey Take Action created  by Megan E, Madeline K, and Paityn B, is geared to all people in Orange County. It serves as a directory, an educational piece, and a starter for conversation. Our goal is to combat our homelessness crisis by attacking the stigma around it. Our site includes petitions to sign, stories from collaborators, a list of homeless shelters in OC, and information about what to do when you see a homeless person. Feel free to read, learn, and share!

Senior Level Journey Take Action Project Plan

Our issue  is the stigma of HOMELESSNESS in our community
Why did you choose this Issue?  Why do you think it is important?
  • issue in our local communities
  • goes hand-and-hand with a lot of other social issues
PROJECT DESCRIPTION/SUMMARY: What kind of project are you going to do?
Make a website educating people on homelessness
  • effects of homelessness
  • causes of homelessness
  • how to help the homeless in our community
  • homeless personal experiences (from previously homeless individuals)
TARGET AUDIENCE   We are planning to educate or involve the specific groups of people.
  • We could interest people in participating who are already in the groups that we are affiliated with such as Girl Scouts, Key Club (and other volunteer clubs at our schools) , and church groups.
RESEARCH   We will become experts on our issue.
Before we start , we need to learn:
1. What to do when you see a homeless person
more information from people who work at a homeless shelter or homelessness activists
Where or how we could learn this.
2.Learn about stories from people who were previously homeless
get in contact with an internet influencer who is open about being previously homeless
3. De-Stigmatizing people who are homeless   https://www.rescuemission.org/stories/ (link to stories)
4. Places that accept donations and are open to volunteers
researching online and reaching out to places that work to make a difference
Is our project necessary? We will confirm our project is important by:
  • Talking to and learning more from experts such as people who have been homeless/influencers who were homeless
  • Reach out to shelters
PLAN IT OUT – What steps will your project include?
  • Research about homelessness in our community and other people’s stories on homelessness
  • Create a website or blog.
  • The topics we will highlight are:
  • what being homeless is like
  • how communities can help
  • how legislature can help
  • how to make a lasting difference in the lives of homeless people
  • what to do when you see a homeless person
  • Empower those who are homeless or have been homeless by giving them a platform to speak.
  • Write emails to the following people: to be determined
The purpose of our emails is to share stories and experiences
PROMOTION   How will we get people to our event or tell people what we are doing?
  • Using social media to promote our website/make a description of what our website and linking it
  • Tell our family, friends, church groups, clubs, fellow Girl Scouts, and sports teams through emails and social media platforms. Hold an event to show it to troops.
 MEASURABLE GOALS
  • The estimated number of people we would like to impact is: 100 (including the people who look at the website, sign our (possible) petition, and the homeless people affected)
We would like our audience to learn how to help the homeless.
Some ways our project could change people’s habits or lives are
-how people treat and respect the homeless
-people are more aware of the issue of homelessness in the community
We will measure our success in the following ways:
Seeing the number of people who have seen or commented our website
  • Checking back to see if habits of people who have read our website have changed over time.
  • Count the number of attendees at our event.
The part of the project that will be the most fun is: getting in contact  and collaborating with empowering people who have overcome homelessness.
