SPECIFIC

What's your issue?

Nonspecific: pollution

Specific:
plastic pollution at the beach
toxic runoff from lawn chemicals
Who's your audience?

Your target audience is the people you can actually reach.

Nonspecific: The whole world, people, everybody, teens
Specific:
Three classrooms worth of kids at my school
a specific school service club
the youth group at my church
my cousin’s daisy troop

MEASURABLE
How will you promote your project and know that it had an impact?

Non-measurable:  We plan to post our video to youtube.
Measurable:

We plan to get  3 local clubs to post a link to our website or video.
We will show our video to 2 troops.

We plan to have at 30 attendees at our Zoom or in-person event.
We plan to make 100 flyers and give them out at a booth at our school carnival.
We will survey to find out what our target audience learned.

Achievable
Is your issue too big to tackle?

Difficult to achieve:  Stop deforestation

Achievable:
Educate
100 people about the ways the food they choose to buy affects the rainforest.
Difficult to achieve:  End Bullying

Achievable:
Teach 50 kids how to recognize healthy relationships.
Host an event at your school with a bullying prevention theme.

REALISTIC/RELEVANT
Do your plans fit your life and the amount of time you have?

If you plan to work together remotely, do you all have email accounts that you check regularly?
If you plan  to do research online, do you have internet access?
If you plan to meet with your team or go on field trips have you checked with leaders and adults?
Does you have time in your schedule to devote to everything you planned?

Are you sure your ideas fit a real need?
Did you ask or survey your target audience to see if there is a need for the project you have in mind?
Does what you are planning already exist?  Did you check?

TIMELY

When does this need to be done? Did you allow enough time to do it?

We plan to have our flyers and advertising created by Sept.1.
We plan to send out our promotional materials the second week of September.

We want our presentation prepared by Oct 30.
We plan to give our presentation to 3 other troops by Nov. 15
