What happens on a Journey?

DISCOVER -  They explore topics within the Journey theme.
CONNECT - They narrow down to the topic that they care about the most.
TAKE ACTION - They create a Take Action project to address the topic through educating people, challenging people to change habits or advocating for change.

All Take Action Projects contain a version of these basic steps.

The size & scope of the project grows as the girls mature.

Identify the issue that you care about (including the root cause)
Form a team
Create a plan
Set goals

Engage the community as you carry out your plan
Reflect
Evaluate your efforts
Share your story to inspire others

A 7 year old girl scout takes action for gardens.
Alicia Serratos, 7, holds up a copy of her organic cookbook, “Recipes To Grow,” while standing in the garden at The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano. Proceeds from the book will be donated to the center's Grow Your Own program, which helps support organic gardens at local schools.

Media Journey Take Action Project - The Screen Time Initiative

Picture
Lauryn and Kaitlyn  know when enough screen time is enough. But other kids their age don't. Learn about the impact of MEdia overuse and try new activities other than unproductive binge-watching and taking selfies to send to an endless amount of friends you barely know.

aMAZE Journey inspired board game!

Picture
Picture
We created this game as our Amaze Journey Take Action Project. This game is important to us because it teaches young girls about how to deal with peer pressure. Our hope is that girls understand the difference between good and bad peer pressure, and they develop the confidence to make the right decision.

 Destigmatizing Homelessness

The Girltopia Journey Take Action  is geared to all people in Orange County. It serves as a directory, an educational piece, and a starter for conversation. Our goal is to combat our homelessness crisis by attacking the stigma around it. Our site includes petitions to sign, stories from collaborators, a list of homeless shelters in OC, and information about what to do when you see a homeless person. Feel free to read, learn, and share!

It All Starts With You - Recognizing Healthy Relationships
A website with program tools for Cadettes & leaders

Four Senior Girl Scouts, Rachael (Troop 913), Tran (Troop 2279) , Chloe (Troop 994), and Madison (Troop 1565), have created a website that focuses on the topics of bullying and relationships! The website focuses on informing Girl Scouts about the topics of bullying and all types of relationships and it can also be used as a meeting resource for Cadette Girl Scouts! The website teaches younger Girl Scouts how to identify toxic and healthy relationships and how to maintain them, and how to identify bullying and how to prevent it! These four Senior Girl Scouts created this website to ensure that these important topics were being addressed and to inform younger Girl Scouts about these two topics so they can be prepared for situations that they may come across. The target group for the website is Girl Scout Cadettes and Cadette leaders.
